Apr. 16th, 2005 08:29 pmОчень важный вопрос:
Who here has taken the TRKI (Test of Russian as a Foreign Language)?
There are four tests you can take, which are recognized by the Russian Ministery of Education.
The TRKI-1 is required for entrance into a Russian university. Apparently it measures for an intermediate level of competence, but the definition of "intermediate" is highly arbitrary. I'm going to St. Petersburg this summer for 6 weeks, and I'd like to take the TRKI-1 there at the end of my stay. Basically, I want/need/MUST pass this test! I'm not sure if they administer TRKI tests anywhere but Russia (do they?) so this may be my only chance before college.
Any insight?
Thanks,
Aimee

Date: 2005-04-17 04:40 am (UTC)From what I got at website of the Ministry of Education of Russia, the idea of the program is that you can only take this in Russia, in one of 41 designated universities. There are also three centers in Italy mentioned at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website. So if you need this, your best chance is to go to Russia.

I have not seen TRKI, so I cannot get any opinion on it. Neither can I give an opinion on how difficult Russian is -- although I can see some of the battle between English and Russian in my kid's head (he is in kindergarten, after having spent 4 years in the US).

Date: 2005-04-17 05:15 pm (UTC)About the test
Date: 2005-04-17 05:21 pm (UTC)There are a lot of fill-in-the-blank multiple-choice questions which test grammar and vocabulary (the correct declension/conjugation of words, the correct tense, the correct word choice, etc.). There are a couple sections in which you have to write letters. (For mine, there was one that was a letter to the son of a friend who is considering going into the same industry I work in, and the other was a letter to a university concerning their exchange students holiday travel.) There are a couple listening sections (listen to a conversation on tape and answer questions) and a section with a movie clip. (Both of the last two are oral questions and answers, not written.)
Most important - some parts of the test you are allowed to use your dictionary, so take a good one with you!
