Yes, Живой Журнал, but commonly abbreviated as "ЖЖ." For a while I believed that "ЖЖ" stood for lesbianism as if to be женщина-женщина. "Wow, there sure are a lot of Russian lesbians," I thought, but I was wrong :-(

1) Means less offence than most of the synonyms :)
2) Голубой = A passive male homosexual

Note that the commonly used Живой Журнал is, surprisingly, WRONG :)) Журнал in Russian means "magazine," not "diary." This "diary" meaning was there in the 1800s, but somehow vanished during the next century. Live Journal in Russian would be "Живой дневник", but the first (more poetic than linguistically correct) translation just stuck with it. This is why an average Russian lj-user is far older and, ughm, more experienced (some would say "dated" :)))) than an average English-speaking lj-users: for Russians it's more a personal MAGAZINE rather than a DIARY :))))

Have you ever seen a standalone word журнал in this meaning - I mean, out of set expression "бортовой журнал"? I haven't. Set expressions are another story.
No, the latest example of using "журнал" standalone with the meaning "a diary" would be the chapter from Lermontov's "The Hero Of Our Times" -- "Журнал Печорина" (Pechorin's Diary). 1830s.

if it is a slang, then maybe instead вещь (вещь) use a word like фигня.
example: и прочая фигня :))
