Hello. Since I have never traveled to Russia, can someone describe to me what Russia looks like and what the people are like?

Also, I *tried* to translate a song, can someone fix my mistakes??

_______Fever is zero and not above
_______The wind is along my skin, the wind is through my wings
_______Heart thawed, (_?_) in arms
_______You are small to me, small for (_?_)

_______You are much to me, much for the nights
_______You cure, you do not cure, you obviously do not want
_______It seems I am a fool, simply without you
_______Early, not early, better than later

_______I am simply cut short (_?_)
_______Everything, however, is early, better than later

_______I am not in pain with you from February before Moscow
_______I am not in pain with you, like cigarrette smoke.
_______I am simply wind again
_______Everything is simply washed away water
_______I close you, I am not in pain with you

_______The beaten glass doesn't restick
_______I am not in pain with you anymore
_______Recovered, rewritten
_______Without you much,
_______With you slightly

_______I am simply cut short (_?_)
_______Everything, however, is early, better than later

_______I am not in pain with you from February before Moscow
_______I am not in pain with you, like cigarrette smoke.
_______I am simply wind again
_______Everything is simply washed away water
_______I close you, I am not in pain with you

You'll find Russia quite the same things :))

Iiiiiiii wouldn't agree with all that.

If you were to try to describe the US for someone who's never been, it's probably not a good idea to make it sound so... weird.

The US *is* diverse, but our cities are neither completely run-down nor "glorious." Every city I've ever lived in seems to have varying degrees of both affluence and poverty. In some, the ghettos are no more than a couple blocks away from upper-middle class subdivisions. No city should be categorized as either one or the other.

I won't speak for Atlanta, though. I can't stand Atlanta.

I spent most of my childhood in a barrio, so it struck me a little unkindly that you would equate poor places with uncleanliness. Now I wish I hadn't been forced to wash behind my ears all those times. What a waste!

I wouldn't agree with you that our country's citizens aren't collectively arrogant. Not that I'm condoning anything that has transpired as a result of our government's actions, so let's avoid politics here. I do think we have an arrogant societal consciousness. One manifestation of it is our general impatience. We can't wait for anything, not for a war to sort itself out (I'm not thinking of the current conflict, mind you), not for putting off a conversation until we find a place to park, not for December to arrive before we start putting Christmas lights up.

A lot of us can't even wait four minutes sitting in a drive-thru without getting an attitude with the cashier at the window.

It's not any one person's fault (well, I blame the guys who invented the drive-thru for that last one). And Americans have just as many merits as we do faults, just like any other people on the planet, I do believe. I think it's time to get off my soap-box, though. :)

What part of Arizona are you from? I lived in Tucson. (And you forgot to mention the snakes and coyotes!--the latter of which ate one of our cats... right on the street where we lived... *sad*).

Сердце растаяло, просится в руки - heart thawed and is asking (to be picked up) into arms

I simply tear the threads
but as it turns out, early is better then late

Я не болею тобой - literaly means "I am not sick with you", but the expression is used to mean "in love with you", meaning that the love to you is the sickness

Все просто смыло водой - everything is simply washed away WITH water

Я закрываю тебя - i am closing you (the way you woudl close a book or close a chapter)

I have to say this. If this song looks like a meaningless collection of words when translated into English, that means you have a correct impression of the song. It is a rather stupid song.

well, that's my try for a "song" though I have to agree with [livejournal.com profile] dimon37 that it's just a meaningless collection of words even in Russian ;-)

"You cure or not cure" - well, in modern Russian youth slang the word "лечить" (plain: to cure) could be well translated as "to lie", "to tell bulls**t" or whatever the like.
I think the root is "to tell that it's ok when it's not indeed just to make person feel better".

"What is Russia?" you know, it's really hard to explain. Please be more precise ;-)
ow.
Sounds like Russian pop obviously.

The most important thing you should know about Russia is that there are to many unhappy people here, and some of them even have a distinct reason to be unhappy.

It is not true.
Russian does not "keep smiling", but it is not unhappiness.
We are just another.
From: [identity profile] happy-accidents.livejournal.com
I admire the whole "don't smile unless you mean it" mentality that Russia seems to proliferate. Why pretend to be happy if you're not? A combination of elements (a tumultuous history, dreary weather, corrupt politics) has given many Russians an underlying "life is hard" attitude, which manifests itself in their behavior. Incredibly warm people, though, just affected by a unique culture that remains somewhat incomprehensible to the average American.

Russia is different

We have subtropical climate at south and polar night (which lasts half of year) at north. We have +120F at summer days in Astrakhan and -40F at winter in Arkhangelsk. We have big shiny Moscow, that looks like Las Vegas at night by advertising outdoors and we have cultural capital in Saint-Petersburg with palaces, bridges and fountains. But also we have poor villages with people that earn 2-3 mere bucks in a day working all day by the hot sun.

And, also, I haven't see some bears for 6 or 7 years ;)

I haven't seen any bears in the streets in my whole life :)

Only bears i've recently saw are from "White bear" beer advertising :)

But I can imagine i'm pulling out bear from my house :))))

I saw a baby bear on a leash outside the Hermitage last summer. Two teenagers were charging tourists 50 rubles to pet it!

>Hello. Since I have never traveled to Russia, can someone describe to me what Russia looks like
can you ask a question more exactly. what are you interesting ?? climate, culture, people or something else.

>and what the people are like?
(homo sapiens like in america. 2 eyes, nose, mouth, 2 arms and legs).

I think that Russia is a country with large potential in a lot of aspects. But with potential only. At the moment people are afraid of bureaucracy, police and lawlessness. Therefor this government structures have no shame at all. May be some of members this community objected and could show us a lot of examples of opposite situation. But if you go to register yourself or in our military registration and enlistment office or in another public service you could see a harassment instead of help.
