Okay, what exactly is «же»?  I know it's used for emphasis, but I don't know how...I know an example--what is(are) the difference(s) between «Ты знаешь.» and «Ты же знаешь.»?

The emphatic "do" is the closest one, I think.

Well... "You ought to know" for "Ты же знаешь" is something I strongly disagree with.

Otherwise, good, but not enough to see the trend :)

its the "do" thing, the emphatic do. "You do know that..."
