I know how to pluralize, but I have absolutely no idea what to do in an instance like this.

1 заяц, 2 зайца, 3 зайца, 5 зайцев, 100 зайцев, 123 зайца...
1 картина, 2 картины, 3 картины, 5 картин, 100 картин, 123 картины...
1 поле, 2 поля, 3 поля, 5 полей, 100 полей, 123 поля...
what's wrong with this? This is how Russian plurals work.

Раз уж вы лингвист-журналист-редактор-профессор журфака, объяснили бы девушке как правильно склоняются существительные с числительными)))

1. The working language of this community is English.
2. I am here to maintain the community, not to teach the language. Sometimes I answer some minor questions - as a mere native speaker only. I am not a language teacher. Yes, my teaching experience helps a bit in this. But this is not the point.
BTW, as a native speaker you should have known the difference between American "professor" and Russian "профессор". I am no профессор, I am a преподаватель :)

P.S.

There is this Russian proverb in your userpic - "за двумя зайцами погонишься, ни одного не поймаешь" (literally: if you'll chase two hares, you'll catch no one); what does this "эми" between 3rd and 4th words mean? ;-)))

No way (as far as I know), it only works (automatically) if your default language in Windows is Russian - OR if your IP address is within .ru domain area.

Not everyone knows what a GLOBAL_HEAD is, so unless you edit your post to make it more clear that you're asking how to customize your journal, you'll probably get more answers like the one you've already received.

I have no idea how to do this in the S1 style system, if it's even possible (I don't think it is, but I might be wrong).

What you need to do is switch to the S2 style system (http://www.livejournal.com/customize/). Then, after you select the style you want to use, you need to select the Russian translation layer for it. The comment links on the [livejournal.com profile] finno_ugristics community are the default Russian comment links for S2.

You'll lose all of your S1 customizations, though.

Wow. Thanks for that piece of LJ wisdom. "Век живи - век учись" (live [a century] - learn [a century]).
