I was wondering if anyone here likes Russian movies.
And have you used Russian films as a tool to learn Russian?
I have a Russian Movie reference directory:
http://www.geocities.com/rusatg/dir.htm
Been working on it in my free time for last 8 months.
Maybe someone here will find it useful.
Also would like to know if you have any favorite Russian movies.
Mine is Обыкновенное чудо / Ordinary miracle

Oh well, i do!
At this moment Kira Muratova seems exquisite to me. Her style can be easily lernt from any of the films, i've discovered her complicated and wonderful aproach, when i saw "Чеховские мотивы" in the cinema. Strange, sarcastic, minor-absurdity.
As for the rest russian films - there is a lot of them intimately close to my heart. Now i can name "Один день из Жизни Ильи Ильича Обломова" (or something - with Nikita Mikhalkov as director), "Жестокий романс", "12 стульев" with Andrej Mironov, "Женитьба Бальзаминова", "Чучело" (among the recent impressions), for instance.

I've only seen one (that I can remember) - Burnt By The Sun. I really liked it (despite what some Russians have said about it) and it definitely makes me want to see more.
I'm sure if I were at a more advanced stage, I would use films to aid my learning.

Your site's cool - I like that the film's have got stars by them, it'll make it easier when I want to see whether a film's recommended or not.

And Ordinary Miracle, is it modern? Or not so recent?

What am I thinking? Only Burnt By The Sun?

I also own Russian Ark on DVD. But yes, I realise this isn't 100% Russian. But it's dialogue does help me slightly with my Russian.
Still, I love that film. It's amazing.

Ordinary Miracle was among my favourite movies in early years and in secondary school... Also by Mark Zakharov, the director: That Very Munhgauzen (Тот самый Мюнхгаузен), Формула любви (The Love Formula), To Kill the Dragon (Убить дракона - but I don't like it, it's too gloomy, imho), The House that Swift Built - Дом, который построил Свифт(based on Swift's Jornal to Stella)...
it's a kind of magic :)

I like "A Friend of the Deceased" -- however, it's really Ukranian, not Russian. Very interesting movie.
