[identity profile] herishma.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] learn_russian
Hi I have just found this community and decided to join. I am really interested in the country and anything to do with Russia. Therefore I have recently just started to teach myself the language. Any tips? I started learning how to pronounce words but found it diificult because I don't know anyone who speaks russian. Are there any websites compatible with linux which have pronounciations of words. I'm now learning how to write in russian which I am finding easier.
So any tips that people can give a beginner?

hi

I just started a couple of weeks ago, and ran into the same problem w/ just learning the written language. I picked up the Pimsleur Russian course on CD for about $40 US, and I'm liking it a lot so far.

As for Linux compatible websites, sorry; I just went through the list of bookmarks I've accumulated and all that I've found require Quicktime, WMP, etc.

The one I have is a Barnes & Noble edition: here (http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?isbn=0760744475&itm=1). I know B&N.com will ship to the UK.

Damn. The CD's are about $12 cheaper online. I should've checked before I bought them in the store :-(
