Can anyone tell me the name of a really good Russian band? The only Russian music I listen to is Tatu, and I wanted to experience more lol. Any genre is fine, preferably not rap though. Thanks so much if you can help me out!

I'm pretty certain this isn't what you're looking for...but, I honestly think everyone should experience Shostakovich.
In him I think Russia has produced the most amazing classical composer and I think he is also Russia greatest ever musician.

I think I took "any genre is fine" a bit too seriously.

How 'bout some Doom-Metal? Check out "Forest Stream" or "Ekklesiast" they're both awesome! :)

lol "Doom metal" is a genre name, "Forest Stream" and "Ekklesiast" are band names. You said "any genre", so I thought OK, he asked for it :)

Here (http://s95104018.onlinehome.us/stuff/04-world's%20autumn%20.mp3)'s something to give you an idea.

Hey again

Here's a link to a similar post I made a while back on the russian_love community. I have some bands I listed of my own, that are my personal favorite... some other ones that others suggested...

http://www.livejournal.com/community/russia_love/76899.html

As for song titles, if you want I can forward you a list of song names that I think are particular good. I've been pretty busy, I still remember your post about particular poetry books... I have a few in my room and I'm sure I can look more up at our school library but I'm just so overwhelmed by a overdue final papers. I'll try to get back to you as soon as its done.

I enjoy Kino for learning experiences and the lyrics are kind of easy to understand from the songs.

I would agree with a post above about Diskoteka Avariya, and Ruki Vverh (I hadn't heard of the others mentioned there), and I also quite like Andrey Gubin (a good song is ``я знаю, ты знаеш''), and there is also lots of songs by Varvara to download from http://www.varvara-music.ru/music/.

Zhanna Bichevskaya is one of my favorites. She's like the Joan Baez of Russian music - if you're into that!

"Auctyon" is the best russian rock-band all around:o) Listen to "Ptitsa" (the Bird), one of their most popular album. Pretty much everything they have is good, but that one is good to start with. Also the last cd is great, "Lilovyi Den" (Purple Day).

Others: "Nochnye Snaipery" (Night Snipers), Yury Naumov (try his cd "Violet". He lives in NY, btw). Rada (she has very interesting voice).

All above is rock stuff, not some sleazy suckers...:o))

That depends on what you wanna experience in the first place. For good music check out Михей и Джуманджи. If you want more or less correct Russian lyrics look for Високосный Год (http://www.visokos.ru/).

Cheers.
