I have windows xp. is there any way that I can download a program or get a certain software so that I can make russian compositions on my computer?

Control Panel -> Regional and Language Options -> Languages (second tab) -> Details
This opens the dialog window where you can add new keyboard layouts.

You don't need to download anything. Everything is in your XP installation, just follow the advice that was given in a previous answer.

Some distribution systems have limited list of languages supported and may lack Russian/Cyrillic. Hopefully, this is not the case.
