well, i can't find something that colloquial right now (i'm a student still myself.. still talk like a gutter child), but the basic idea that you're looking for is:

ударять (ково-нибудь)

which is basically to hit (someone).

hope that helps! if not, sorry! hopefully someone how knows better will pop up :D

Just correction:
to punch - ударить (udarit', accent by "a")
ударять- to hit (udaryat', accent by "я")

What do you mean under "they form": они?

Они ударили (past)
Они ударяют (present)

But it is rarely used in relation to 'many' people.
More often you can hear
Они били (кого-то)
Они бьют

or if it's a prolongated raging action with big number of punches:
избивали
избивают

In which tense? Because if you need imperfect tense you should use the verb "бить", and if perfect - "ударить"..

Present: Они бьют
Past: Они били (punched many times or for a long time) / ударили (one time)
Future: Они будут бить (many times or for a long time) / ударят (one time)

One more thing. In Russian there's no different verbs for punch (удар рукой/кулаком) and kick (удар ногой) so probably you should also mention by which part of the body somebody hits somebody or something :)

пинок - kick
пнуть - to kick

But there is no special verb for punch.

In brief: the form you stuck on depends of the context, so pls provide the context as well :))

There is a number of words for "punch" in Russian. Some of them have already been mentioned:
ударить/ударять - to punch or kick one time with fist, foot or an object;
бить (imperfective only) - to beat somebody (or something) for some time;
избить/избивать - the same but more prolonged and more violent action (often refers to several people beating one person);
стукнуть (perfective only for this meaning) - (informal) to punch (usually with fist);
врезать (perfective only) - (informal) to punch strongly.
There are many more words (most of them informal) for different types of beating, so if you tell the exact situation, we may find the most appropriate one.
