Russian fonts in imaging programs?

I'm using Windows XP. I have Russian support installed, so I can type Cyrillic into text programs with no problem. However, it doesn't work in Adobe Photoshop, which I use to edit images.
(For the record, I haven't tried anything yet, since I have no clue where to start.)
Do I need to turn on Unicode support for non-Unicode programs? I will if I have to, but I'd rather not, since it interferes with WinAmp.
Any suggestions?
