I have an idea:

Maybe someone could write up an entry all about Тату/Tatu/Taty/t.A.T.u and what their name means, how it relates to Russian, etc. There are a lot of questions about Татu, and that's fine, but instead of having them repeated over and over again, it would be good to have one place with a bunch of information.

I'd be willing to write the entry myself (as a fan of both Russian grammar and Татu) but I'm not 100% sure of my Russian abilities. If I wrote it, would people correct it? Then—if it were OK with the mods—it could be listed in the Memories section or linked to on the front page and we could refer people to that entry whenever they ask questions.

Just a thought. If people don't mind answering the same questions over and over again, it's OK with me! :)

I think that's a good idea. Tatu is fun, but they're certainly not the the be all and end all of this community - posts about them are getting kind of old.

Here (http://www.tatu.us/index.htm)'s a site with a lot of information about Tatu. I'm afraid I can't verify your entry myself, since I'm not a fan or that advanced in Russian, and you'll have to ask yers to add it to the memories.

I'm a Tatu fan and—though I know hardly any Russian—I know some Tatu-specific facts. I'll try to write something up in the next day or so.

yeah, if you wrote up a kind of Tatu FAQ it would be great... I'd just like to point out that Tatu is, in terms of language culture, something a bit marginal, with their slangy lyrics and a name that isn't supposed to make a lot of sense – I mean, when someone brought up the "та любит ту" thing I was a bit afraid that people would see that as something naturally Russian, while in fact it's a pretty притянутый за уши pun (far-fetched, lit. 'dragged in by the ears').
I'm sorry for replying so late and if you still have the enthusiasm it would be grate if you did write that post, and I'd do everything to make it visible.

I agree. Tatu has very little to do with Russian culture, yet it attracts many fans to the language and culture. It's sort of a double edged sword, in my opinion. I would not have gotten interested in Russian if it had not been for Tatu, but now I have an interest in the language that is completely independend of Tatu. If the girls died tomorrow I'd still want to learn Tatu. On the other hand, most of the people attracted to Russian because of Tatu just want learn rude Russian slang terms like the "meaning" of Tatu.

Anyway, I could still write a bit of a Tatu FAQ... I'm at school now but I might do it later. Don't feel bad about not replying right away, it's OK.
