bhv.livejournal.comI don't know if any of you linguists out there realize exactly how wildly incompetent the teaching of foreign languages is and how that translates to a great business opportunity for the first person to do a good job.
The best way to learn Russian today is probably to buy the Pimsleur CD's from Simon and Schuster, but even those have glaring problems. For example, I am currently going through the reading lessons that come with Pimsleur Russian I and most of the words come with no definitions. This is not very useful, now I know how to say some words, and what they look like when printed, but I have absolutely no idea what they mean.
Look people, Paul Pimsleur has been dead a long time and he isn't going to improve his product. Simon and Schuster is milking a cash cow and they aren't going to improve the product. One of you guys needs to pick up where Paul Pimsleur left off, study the neruo physiology of language learning, figure out new ways to apply it and develop great new products. If you do that and sell it well, you will make a pile of money.
