I have run through all the Pimsleur audio programs for Russian, so I have started making my own little audio programs to help remember Russian words that just won't stay in my head. So far, this is working pretty well. At the end of each of my little programs, I have included Russian children's songs that my friends have suggested. So far, I've used:
Gena's Birthday Song/Пусть бегут неуклюже
The theme for Голубой Вагон
Весёлая карусель (especially good if you can't say ля)
Баю-баюшки-баю

Anyway, what I could use help with is finding children's songs or other songs with easily understandable lyrics and cultural significance. I already love DDT, so suggestions of their songs aren't necessary.

I am totally okay with people sending me messages but have found that I often can't reply because of privacy settings. If your settings only let friends message you, I won't be able to get back to you.

Thanks for your help!

Yeah, speaking about cartoons do check out "Gora Samotsvetov" (Гора Самоцветов), it is traditional fairy tales of different peoples that inhabit russia. Also, all of them are available with subtitles.

Not so sure if youtube has subtitles, but it has most of the cartoons.

Well it mostly depends from what you want. We have different kinds of songs (for Preschoolers, music fairy-talse, Children Ages 4-8). Try to look at here: http://plastinka.org/children/. They have pictures of envelopes. And if you push on «Подробнее» you will know the content. For example the disk «Дружба начинается с улыбки» contains these songs:

In my childhood it was the most popular disk of children songs so they all are hits.

I strongly recommend also this: http://plastinka.org/children/459-vladimir-shainskijj-vsem-vsem-vsem....html
And this:
http://plastinka.org/children/471-letuchijj-korabl.html
And this:
http://plastinka.org/children/291-klara-rumjanova-v-mire-mnogo-skazok....html

And especially this (it’s a children musical and it was and is the most popular Russian musical. Maybe because it’s the only real musical we have. Everybody new it and love it):
Part 1
http://plastinka.org/children/54-bremenskie-muzykanty.html
Part 2

For download you need register, but you may download all these songs here: http://audio.arjlover.net/audio/Pesni/. Just find the Russian name in Latin letters. For example this is disk «Дружба начинается с улыбки»: http://audio.arjlover.net/audio/Pesni/Druzhba_nachinaetsia_s_ulibki_-_pesni_dlia_detei_na_stihi_M_Pliackovskogo/

You’re always welcome. But may I ask you a question? Why you try to find songs? I think poetry will be more useful. We have many excellent poets who wrote specially for children like Dr. Seuss. For example Chukovsky, Barto, Mikhalkov.

Would you like to look at their poetry reading by our good actors?
Chukovsky

Barto

Mikhalkov
http://muzofon.com/search/%D0%A1%D0%B5%D1%80%D0%B3%D0%B5%D0%B9%20%D0%9C%D0%B8%D1%85%D0%B0%D0%BB%D0%BA%D0%BE%D0%B2

And you always can find and download their books. It’s more easy tasks than find and understand songs I guess.

I'd suggest the early albums by Valery Meladze where he's struggling to defeat his Georgian accent pronouncing the Russian words really clearly, and the music is Pure Heaven! :)

Music "heavenlyness" is highly arguable. As some girl asked exactly during that period, "Valery, why it is so that you seem to have different songs, but it sounds like you always sing just one, a very long and boring one?"

Well, my husband and myself are both professional rock musicians and we definitely don't think so! In fact, I gave some of his earlier songs to a few Western music producers to listen to and they were amazed. They said it was a crying shame he didn't sing in English because he could make tons of money with that stuff in the West. But i agree that some people who have no ear for music might have a problem with his songs :)

Tons of money in the West mean exactly the same as in Russia: he makes popular music consumable by an average (stupid, low educated) listener. Justin Bieber makes tons of money in the West. ;-)

Heavenly sounding music is, for instance, Irina Bogushevskaya. Fortunately, she isn't after "tons of money", she is after good music and lyrics. Hence she isn't as popular in Russia as Meladze or Kirkorov.

Good luck with learning!
Here are some suggestions (not exactly children's, but with "cultural significance" nonetheless, most of them are from movies)

If you want children songs, then:
Песенка мамонтёнка,
Облака белогривые лошадки,
От улыбки станет всем светлей,
Вместе весело шагать.
