Is "собственно" as in "вот это собственно и всё" a shortened form of "собственно говоря"? Where did this слово паразита come from?

"собственно" is a shortened form of "собственно говоря", but I don't understand the second question.

it's "cлово-паразит", and not "слово паразита". both parts should be declined, e.g. Хочу избавиться от этого слова-паразита в своей речи.
There are lots of other words in Russian constructed like that, e.g. булочная-кондитерская: "Я пошел в булочную-кондитерскую".

Nobody says "булочная-кондитерская", it's not a very good example. I am sure that this word can only be met in old Soviet books:)

Well, I am sure you can give a better example.

Don't take it personally, please! I just did not want to misguide the person learning Russian. OK, another example that is widely used - "вагон-ресторан" (dining car) in a train.

Interesting question!
Indeed, "собственно" may be a shortened form of "собственно говоря";). These parasitic word (and expression) do not add any bit of sense, but they are very widespread. I would translate "собственно" as "actually" (or "basically"). I even think, that the expression "actually speaking" is used exclusively by native russian speakers ( i am trying hard not to use it:).

Literally, "Собственно" comes from "Собственность"- property; "собственный" - proprietary, own; "собственно" - proprietarily, ownly ( but now I don't know, if such words really exsist in English).

P.S. "вот это собственно и всё" - "That's it, basically" :)

it's not a 'паразит' even in given context.

I suspect that might be a calque-translation of the German "eigentlich" which is used exactly in the same way.
