Help with writing letter

Hi Everyone,

I'm attempting to write an email to Музей Кино in Moscow as I'm planning to do research there in the summer. Here is my email, correct it please and let me know how I can improve it. Thanks in advance. Also, if anyone knows anything about this museum in Moscow (they closed it 5 years ago, it was on Krasnopresenskaya and now there is another museum connected with Mosfilm ( http://www.museikino.ru/ ) which is affilliated with the old museum, but I'm not sure if there are archives there anymore, etc.)

Напишите, пожалуйста, и дайте знать смогу ли я использовать ваши архивы и какие у вас будут рабочие часы летом. Благодарю вас заранее.

It's not that there is "another museum connected with Mosfilm" - it's that the collections of the museum were moved to the buildings within the grounds of Mosfilm studios, and can be accessed there (specialists only, advance appointment necessary.)

Great, that's what I thought, based on what is written on their website. How does one setup such advance appointments? Do you think calling or emailing them in this way will work? Sometimes these things are tricky in Russia...

"кажется" should be surrounded with commas :)

And you'd also better put a comma after "знать" in

I was wondering about that. :)

But after writing mainly in English for some time, the number of commas used in Russian seems hugely excessive.

Indeed, we put a comma where we would make a short pause when speaking. And in this instance, we wouldn't really pause either before or after the word "кажется".

However, a rule is a rule, so we must surround it with commas. :)

Oh yes, sometimes it really is! :)

Well, it's not a pause actually, commas in Russian very often separate different grammar - hmm - parts. And "кажется" is a parenthetical word, you could add "me" and would get a whole sentence - "мне кажется".

And I'm sorry if my English commas are not correct. :)

Almost everything is ok with your letter but the phrase "все-таки разрешены специалистам". You'd better say f.e. "будет ли доступ к этим материалам открыт/разрешен для специалистов" as the materials themselves cannot be opened nor closed. In Russian, I mean :)

Если Вас не затруднит, не могли бы Вы мне написать о том, могу ли я как-нибудь ознакомиться с материалами Вашего архива и, если да, то каким образом я могу это сделать. "изыскания" - yep, it sounds weird. Maybe "в моей работе" or original variant "в моих исследованиях".
