квест

Talked to a friend yesterday, and he said that there is a game - квест - which people play partially on the internet, but also have to play outside in the city. I didn't quite understand what he meant, but he said it is quite a popular thing to play, at least among his friends in the Ukraine.
I was wondering, if this is an equivalent of what a scavenger hunt would be in America? If not, does anyone know what this is?

"Quest" means an "adventure game" in Russian, it's derived from Sierra's "quest" series (King's Quest, Space Quest, e.t.c.). He probably meant and "offline adventure game", which is some sort of augmented reality game.

Yeah, quests (or scavenger hunts, to us) are very popular here (in Ukraine.) I've been living here for a year now and I think there have been three or four "quests" that I know of, one which was in my town. People go out, run around the city looking for clues/doing tasks, and the winner usually gets a certificate or something. People take it SO seriously. :)
