Hey,
I'm new here - was just directed here and hoped for some answers to my question =)

I've been learning Russian almost 4 Semesters now, and would like to watch some movies in Russian. I've watched "Возвращение" and "Кукушка", which I understood quite well. At least I didn't have much trouble understanding the plot line, although I did not understand every word. Can anyone recommend Russian movies similar to this, with simple dialog?

I would recommend to watch any GOOD Russian movies:

If you use bit-torrent, you can find and download thes (and many other) movies from http://kinozal.tv/
All these movies are "gold", i.e. you can download them without uploading anything. You will need to register first, then go to "Раздачи" and enter movie title in "Поиск по словам" box and hit "Поиск раздач". Then select movie (preferably "gold") and load it's torrent. Then... ask if you need help. :)

Soviet films are simple and you can learn also a liitlle bit more than only the languidge itself.
Phrases from classic soviet movies has become idioms.
"Собачье сердце" - is an ehillent film, full of dialogs. May be not so simple, but you can meet dialogs from different languige levels and any case it's "have to be seen" movie, that can explain a litlle bit the russian reality.
If you are looking for extremmaly slow movies go to Тарковский's films. But they are really slow.
Classic soviet comedies are hot recomended: "Брильянтовая рука", "Операция Ы", "Иван Васельевич меняет профессию"

I advice about "Тот самый Мюнхгаузен" - very good film with dialogs in normal level and very sharp.

I suggest Beregis avtomobilya (1967), Ironiya sudby (1975), Ivan Vasilyevich menyayet professiyu (1973) and Osennij marafon (1979). They are all well-known, and the dialogue is not difficult.

I would recommend you to watch soviet cartoons.
They have simple dialogs because they are for kids and they are quite good as cartoons.

There is a lot of great films already referenced here, but I'm afraid they are not really suitable for the 4th semester...

I would take rather the worldwide known actions like with Stallone or Schwarzenegger in russian translation. Only if you wouldn't have any problems with such stuff, then yes you can!

Another good idea would be to listen old soviet songs with the printed text in the hand.
There are many slow songs with excellent understandable voices, "the old school"....

I am a native English Speaker and find that movies such as "Defiance" have simple Russian dialogue, albeit only a few lines and there are subtitles that you can't remove. As an intermediate student (I don't know what "fourth semester" really means so far as your level is concerned) I have enjoyed "Absurdistan" which is available through Netflix. I also really enjoyed "12" <<Двенадцать>>; Irony of Fate (or, Enjoy your bath) <<Ирония судбы>> and it's continuation. The Dialogue is a bit advanced, but it isn't hard to follow and if you watch it more than once, every time you watch it again you'll pick up new things. I reccommend watching Russian Movies WITHOUT subtitles the first time unless you have absolutely no understanding.
Also, try <<Дом дураков>>.
Hope this helps. The hardest part for me has always been getting my hands on these movies, but Netflix has a surprising amount of Russian language films. If you can find some, the BEST movies for understanding are Disney movies that have been translated. I have Tarzan and the Lion King and they are FANTASTIC. Even the songs are in Russian.

As a native Russian speaker, I second the suggestion of cartoons. The dialogues are pretty simple (ranging from just a few words to normal active interaction) and aren't complicated by the context, as it happens in movies, especially in those comedies mentioned above. Some of them are lined with quotes and jokes that a foreign person may or may not get, and all include allusions and contextual references to things specific for USSR, some of which are hard to comprehend without explanation and historical reference. Hell, some are rather hard even for a young Russian-speaking person, for lacking of relevant knowledge and experience.
You can also go for movie interpretations of internationally known books, where you would know the plot and the context of dialogues.

Which Soviet cartoons do you mean? Most cartoons I've found might be good artistically, but there isn't enough dialog -- not enough talking to be good for language learning.

I second to recommending 'Питер FM', but I wouldn't recommend 'Стиляги'. The latter contains old-time slang and lots of popular songs often awfully remade to fit the plot of the film. I definitely do not recommend 'Стиляги' for a language learner.
