Is it повредить чему/кому или повредить что/кого?

Например, она мне повредила / она меня повредила?

В игре он повредил колено/колену?

Or are both ways acceptable?

Both acceptable, but mean different things.

Повредить чему/кому is closer to "to spoil something for somebody" or "to harm somebody's affairs/business."

Повредить кого/что is "to physically damage something or somebody".

I haven't ever heard "повредить кому-л.", only "навредить кому-л.".

"что-либо ему повредило" is ok, but not "кто-либо" IMHO.

to me повредить кому is kinda colloquial, навредить is the more usual word in this meaning

навредить кому-то — to harm someone. so you can навредить to a person. to injure. it sounds more figurative for me.

повредить что-то — to break something, both ancke or pen :)

you can't say она мне повредила / она меня повредила.

if you mean that person did something bad to you, it is она мне навредила

if you mean that somebody hurt somebody else you'll say smth like она повредила мне ногу

you can't say повредила about persons and animals, only things, body parts, etc.

To sum it up. :-)

Повредить что-либо: to injure, just as you say: в игре он повредил коленО.

It also means "to break something", as in "повредить машину".

Usually, it also implies that harm is NOT INTENDED. If it is, you'd better add "умышленно" -- "with intent".

Повредить кого-либо -- you can't say it at all. You can't say "она МЕНЯ повредила" because it'll sound as if the speaker is a doll, a car or a robot. :-))))))

Повредить кому-либо, чему-либо: to harm someone but not physically, like ruin one's chances, harm one's reputation, etc. Она МНЕ повредила -- "she did me a bad turn", something like that. Новый закон повредит экономике -- the new law will harm economy. Please note that in this case harm is NOT INTENDED, either.

Навредить кому-либо, чему-либо -- normally, in implies that harm IS intended, and in any case, the degree of harm is considerably more serious than with повредить. "Она МНЕ навредила" -- she got me into lots of trouble, possibly out of spite. It's also more colloquial.

Навредить кого-либо, что-либо doesn't exist at all.
