Well check this out for obscene vocabulary: http://www.alternative-dictionaries.net/dictionary/Russian/, most of it is quite dangerous to use.

Well we speak English here. ) Yes, both cities have their specific words, all those бордюр vs поребрик battles... But more tricky is slang used by some social groups which are rather narrow, I don't know, cab drivers, cops, bikers, pushers, whatever.

I know a good amount of Russian because of family, so I doubt I'd need to resort to English, but I was just wondering in general. :)

Really? "Я иду к Москва и Ст Петерсбург в месяце"? :-)) none of these words are used correctly in this sentence, except "и" and "в". You still think you need slang, or you better check your basics first? :-)))

"в" is not used correctly either because it was supposed to mean "in a month", i.e. the correct translation would be "через месяц".

Actually, I second that. Someone with so basic a level of Russian need not bother about any slang anyway.

And I have to disappoint the OP: you probably will have to resort to English because it is extremely hard to get your meaning (and would be outright impossible if you did not give the English original).

If so we should better call this regional dialects. You can be quiet - there are definitely no significant dialectal differences throughout Russia. The same standard language is fully understood everywhere and, moreover, nobody expects from a foreigner to reflect the local usage preferences.

If you go to Spb from Moscow, you should know, that: "baton"(msk) = "bulka"(spb), "bordur"(msk)="porebrik"(spb), "pod'ezd"(msk) = "paradnaya"(spb), "shaurma"(msk) = "shaverma"(spb) and e.t.c. ))

Well, if you were speaking this sentence, they would still be mistakes. They would not go away just because they are not in writing.

I've spent only a few days in Moscow and two years in SPb and I've heard baton more often than bulka and pod'ezd more often than paradnaya... perhaps some regionalities are being lost.

But anyway, don't worry, people will understand you either way. :) Sometimes I just go with whichever word is easier to say... like pod'ezd versus paradnaya. :P Shaverma vs shaurma is the most important distinction though. ;)

Oh, and also, you could ask your teacher for a list when you get there. I know I got some kind of packet like that.

I'm half Russian, so I'm going with my mother just to see it so I know where I come from, sort of thing. I haven't been to Moscow since I was one, so I obviously remember nothing.

(*) I presume you are a woman. If you are a man, then хотел бы is used.
