Dear moderators - can we please put an end to these annoyingly long posts about the ЕЭГ and studying English in London? They have appeared in other communities too. They cannot be commented upon, which adds to the frustration.

you're absolutely right.
I'm happy I've already passed this stupid examination.
And I hope you did alike)

No we cannot. Those are from spam bots, not from real people, so the only way there is - for us, is to delete them promptly; for the community members, to be patient. Normally they are deleted within 15 to 20 minutes, just like this time.
BTW commenting spam bot posts is quite pointless anyway.

The only alternative is the pre-moderated membership in the community. We have already tried it during the infamous invasion of bash.org.ru pranksters about a year go. Neither moderators, nor community members really liked it.

However, shall the members vote for us to enable the pre-moderated membership in the community, we shall do so. Shall I start a poll?

Yes, please, make it pre-moderated.

So, in four days we have three votes for starting the pre-moderation poll, out of four thousand members.

Sorry.

Does this necessarily mean that there will be a delay from an original post and a response due to "pre-moderation?"

To me, part of the charm of this forum is the instant response I seem to get. It's amazing. I hit my "Enter" key and, invariably, within a minute or two some kind person has answered the question. It's magic! :)

I like that.

So, if this means a delay - I am AGAINST pre-moderation.

Exactly my point. Unless it's absolutely necessary and the bots attack every other minute, I'm against pre-moderated membership. So far, we have approx. two attacks a week, and the spam excrements are normally removed within an hour (and that's in the worst case.) I see no emergency yet.

The question was not "shall we make it pre-moderated". The question was, shall we start a poll? Please do answer the question we are asking.

Please do start a poll!

This poll would be voted only by those who are already community members (and therefore pre-moderation won't affect them in any way). By the means of such a poll you won't be able to hear voices of those who aren't members of the community and who presumably would be affected by making membership pre-moderated.

Exactly. This is how democracy works: the citizens of the country vote to enable immigration or to reduce it. It's their natural right.

If you hold a mouse over the userpic or lj man icon next to posting bot username for a couple of seconds, you will see a popup menu with an option "Report a Bot (http://www.livejournal.com/abuse/bots.bml)".
