What's the difference between "полтора" and "полутора"? I had always seen and used myself "полтора", which seems more common, but recently have read on separate occasions "полутора".

This child is 1.5 years old = Этому ребенку полтора года (masculine, nominative). This is a child of 1.5 = Это ребенок полутора лет (masculine, genitive?).
It costs $1500 = Это стоит полторы тысячи долларов (feminine, nominative). I don't have $1500 = У меня нет полутора тысяч долларов (feminine, genitive).
