Quick question regarding careers.

My teacher wrote down in my book what the jobs were, but I can't read her hand writing she was writing so fast.

So, if I say my mom works for the government... it's Моя мама работает в... (and I can't make out the word she used for government.)

And my dad... would be.. Папа работал в Министер све Оборо.. (I can't make out the rest of the word Оборо? Minister of Defense)

Моя мама работает в Правительстве.
Папа работал в Министерстве Обороны.

None of this is capitalized - правительство, министерство обороны.

Папа работал в Министерстве Обороны (The Ministry of Defence)

Names of the ministries, departments etc. are never capitalized in Russian (unless it's a translation of Orwell's 1984 :-))

Is it for the gov't like at NSA, IRS, etc or something more casual like at a public school?

ah yes, in case of something like school it will be "Моя мама - госслужащая"
