ТАКЖЕ ТОЖЕ
Nov. 19th, 2008 12:54 pmCan someone explain the usage of также and тоже, please ?
We have two words in English "also" and "too". They mean pretty well the same thing, but some usages are wrong. For example you can't start off a sentence with "too"
I have the idea that there are some places where также and/or тоже can't be used, but I can't find an explanation in my grammar books.

Date: 2008-11-19 02:00 pm (UTC)также - the same person and different things (He was a musician and also a writer - Он был музыкантом, а также писателем)
In oral speech or any less formal situations I would use ЕЩЁ instead of ТАКЖЕ (Я была в Париже. А еще я была в Берлине. Я люблю оперу, а еще я люблю балет)

также sounds more formal..

Date: 2008-11-19 02:27 pm (UTC)Тоже and также in the sense of also, too, and:
Я тоже хочу в кино. correct
Я хочу в кино тоже. correct
Я хочу тоже в кино. probably correct, slightly awkward
Тоже я хочу в кино. incorrect
И я хочу в кино. correct
Я и хочу в кино. incorrect/different meaning
Я также хочу в кино. correct; также denotes an additional action(desire) (another one has just been made(mentioned))
Я хочу также в кино. correct
Также я хочу в кино. correct; in this position it links distant sentences
Я хочу в кино также. probably correct, slightly awkward
I hope you know the difference between:
также (=and/also/too) and так же (=that same way)
тоже (=and/also/too) and то же (=that same thing)
Я также хочу так же уметь петь.=I also want to be able to sing that well.
Я тоже хочу уметь делать то же.=I also want to be able to do that same thing.

Date: 2008-11-19 04:58 pm (UTC)также = как делать что-то еще = as well as i can do something else. тоже is never used in this way, and you can alsways replace также with И (AND)
я также умею петь = i can sing as well (as well as i can dance) you can put it like и еще я умею петь
я тоже умею петь = i can sing as well (as Mike)
я так же умею петь = i can sing as well (as Mike)
that's it, now i got it exactly!
there's only one tricky thing here, mind the order of words and spelling: я умею петь так же (separately) means I can sing LIKE Mike, in the same style or way
http://otvet.mail.ru/question/3720333/ check that - it'll make everything clear for you

у нас также идет дожь = и у нас идет дождь = it's raining here too, as well as at yours
у нас тоже идет дождь it's raining here too, as well as at yours
у нас так же идет дождь = it's raining here and it's pretty cold too
so, apologies for messing you up a bit - the whole point is to mind the difference between также (conjunction) and так же (так же как кто-то еще, так же как что-то еще)(pronoun with a particle)

Date: 2008-11-20 02:35 am (UTC)"Тже" is used in situations where some thing, person, action or condition comes in addition to a similar, preceding thing, person, action or condition. For example "Я тже хоч танцевть" ("I, too, want to dance") implies that somebody else is or has been dancing and you want to emulate them; "Ем тже прихдится нелегк" ("He, too, is having difficulties") implies that someone besides "him" is having difficulties; "А вы - тже инженр?" ("And are you an engineer, too?") implies that somebody else besides the person to whom the question is addressed is an engineer; etc.
"Ткже" is used to introduce additional unrelated items -like in a list - rather than something with a precedent. For example: "Я ткже хоч танцевть" ("In addition, I want to dance"); "Ем ткже прихдится нелегк..." ("In addition, he is having difficulties..." - this doesn't work well as a standalone sentence); "А вы ткже инженр?" ("So, in addition, you are an engineer?").
By the way (I don't know if this is a problem for non-native speakers but Russian speakers make this mistake all the time), do not confuse "тоже" with "то же" and "также" with "так же". These are different conjunctions with different meanings.
