Oct. 31st, 2008 06:49 amgood morning! (if it's morning where you are...)
I am in chapter six of the Дядя Фёдор... chapter book,
I don't understand what Глачонок Хватайка means. I realize that it's a bird, because I could translate the first word but the second word, I have no idea! I have to answer the question Почему его так назвали? But I think I have to know what his name means first...
And Im still having troubles answering как questions,
1. Как относились к дяде фёдору люди в деревне? почему?
-Люди в деревне относилсь к дяде фёдору, (что он) не бездельничал, потому что всё время делом занимался или играл.
Im not sure if I need the (что он)
4. Почему его так назвали?
Он незвали так потому что .....
Is that the form I could put my answer in?
Anyways have an awesome day! and thanks.

Date: 2008-10-31 12:58 pm (UTC)First question in English would be something like:
How did the village's people treat дядя Фёдор?
You need to answer the question 'how'. I don't see any word that answers this 'how' in the answer you propose.
Question four... What's the reason for the answer to contain он and not его just as in the question?

Date: 2008-10-31 01:02 pm (UTC)For example, Как относились к дяде Федору люди в деревне? means literally How did village people feel towards Uncle Fedor?
They could have good or bad feelings toward him, or some other feelings.
Они относились к дяде Федору хорошо. (They had good feelings toward him, or They treated him well.)
Они относились к дяде Федору плохо. (They had bad feelings toward him, or They treated him badly.)
Они уважали дядю Федора. (They respected him.)
Они завидовали дяде Федору. (They were envious of him.)
Then you have the second part: почему? This means "why". You have to explain why the village people treated uncle Fedor the way they did. For example: потому что он не бездельничал, а все время занимался делом или играл. (please note that потому что should stand before the second part of the sentence and cannot be omitted)

Date: 2008-10-31 01:11 pm (UTC)Why was he called that? He was called that because...
Same in Russian:
Почему его так назвали?
Его так назвали, потому что...
Почему вода мокрая?
Вода мокрая, потому что...

Date: 2008-10-31 01:08 pm (UTC)1. You haven't answer the question yet. You're answered about mood of relation with village's community.
4. Better use one of following:
-- Они так его назвали потому, что ...
-- Его так назвали потому, что ...
> Anyways have an awesome day! and thanks.

Date: 2008-10-31 01:23 pm (UTC)First of all, it's галчонок, not глачонок. Галчонок derives from галка -- jackdaw (Corvus monedula (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b9/Dohle_%28Corvus_monedula%29_d1.jpg)), pigeon-sized black bird widely spread in central Russia. A mature jackdaw is галка in Russian, and its nestling or fledgling (young, not yet full-size bird) is галчонок.
Хватайка is the birdie's nickname, with the meaning along the lines of "Catchit", "Grabit" etc.
