REPORTING

In the sentence

"The standard of work in the reporting of news from the House of Commons is generally very high"

I would have put "репортаж" for "reporting"

What word should I use for "reporting", please ?

Трансляция has nothing to do with reporting. It is "broadcasting." Problem is, there is no such thing as "reporting" in Russian journalism terminology. Actually, there is, but it's a rather juridical formula, сообщение новостей, and it's almost never used in real journalist practice.

I would use the plural, perhaps. "У́ровень репорта́жей из пала́ты о́бщин в о́бщем и це́лом весьма́ высо́к".

Or a paraphrase: "У́ровень журнали́стской рабо́ты в переда́чах новосте́й из пала́ты о́бщин как пра́вило весьма́ высо́к".

It is not necessary to put stresses wherever they should, or should not, be put; much more useful is to put commas where they belong, which you, for some reason, do not perform.

Good catch. Thank you.

"У́ровень репорта́жей из пала́ты о́бщин, в о́бщем и це́лом, весьма́ высо́к".

"У́ровень журнали́стской рабо́ты в переда́чах новосте́й из пала́ты о́бщин, как пра́вило, весьма́ высо́к".

OK. Anyway I don't think it is necessary to put stresses at all, if we're discussing advanced stuff (and I do think that discussing the parliamentary journalism standards is, in fact, quite advanced.) Stresses are almost never used in real Russian writing, and BTW the diacritics you are using do not appear correctly in some browsers (I use IE7, and I see them on the consonants that follow the vowels which are actually stressed.)

I guess report here means отчет... so... My variant is:
"Уровень отчетности новостей палаты общин, как правило, очень высок."

отчетности новостей? impossible

Maybe "подачи новостей"?

Отчётность is financial reporting, not news reporting; though the genre of journalist work, report, can be called отчёт in Russian.

It's impossible to stay close to word-by-word translation and not to get an awkward, artificial sentence. Therefore, I would translate your sentence as "Стандарты журналистской работы тех репортёров, которые освещают работу Палаты общин, в целом весьма высоки".
