Another paragraph - context behind cut

Thanks.

It is perhaps for this very reason that today the title lobbyist is a mark of distinction; the ability to get one’s own way an achievement people boast about openly. For example, in a television interview Alexandra Burataeva, a well-known figure in the Unity Party, announced in a self-deprecating tone ‘Yes, I am a lobbyist,’ as she described how she had wrested money from the budget for her native region of Kalmykia.

Of course, true masters do not broadcast their achievements on television (the pre-election campaigns are still a long way off, and to begin before the time is right will lose you credibility with partners).
Partners here - does that mean colleagues within your party or more along the lines of corporate sponsors? Or other parties you might form alliances with. I expect it means all those things: i don't know whether to write sponsors and political partners in English, leave it as partners or not name anybody as I have so far.

Date: 2008-10-12 12:47 am (UTC)Partners here are most likely the people requiring lobbying services. The services are paid.
But too much publicity brought about due to high amounts of attention to some boaster? That may make things work quite less effectively than expected. If he's a type that might cross his party-fellows on the field of lobbying, he could hardly expect to be:
a) nominated for deputy,
b) allowed to remain in his seat for long (there's even an imperative mandate(sp?) in effect in Russia),
c) kept in the loop.
With that in mind, he wouldn't be able to even hope to work as a lobbyist.
