asking for help again - Thanks!
Oct. 5th, 2008 11:44 amI just posted this to my own journal, and while I love the people who read it on a regular basis, they don't usually correct my grammar, as they would rather just discuss (and argue with each other!) about the topic of my post. On one hand that's cool, because I learn a lot of new words and am exposed to a wide variety of world views, but it isn't exactly helping me improve my Russian...
So, if any of you could help correct the content of my post below, I'd really appreciate it. And oh yeah, if you are totally in love with Sarah Palin and think she is the answer to all of America's problems, maybe skip this one, ok? My purpose in posting this is to get help with my Russian, not upset Republican learners of Russian language. ;) That being said, here it is:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Сара Пэйлин точно как наш президент Буш, а в платем и губной помаде. <---- Sarah Palin is exactly like our President Bush, but in a dress and lipstick.
(I had wanted to say "Вот я сказала: Сара Пейлин сука / There I said it: Sarah Palin is a bitch," as the title of the blog entry that I'm referring to was entitled, but I'm really not comfortable using the word "bitch" in Russian. It's much more stronger than the English equivalent, right? I worry that by using that word, I will come off as crass.... Is there a better word to use, that means "bitch" in Russian, or is it ok to just go ahead and use "сука"? Btw, I'm a woman - does it matter that I use that kind of word in Russian? For some reason, I think it does, because my Russian male friends never seem to want to teach me Russian profanity...)
Сегодня утром одна из мои хороших подруг послала мне этот линк:
This morning one of my good girlfriends sent me the link to this blog:
http://margaretandhelen.wordpress.com/2008/10/03/bitch-there-i-said-it/
Хотя блог на английском языке, я хочу поделиться с всем блогом. Две бабушки пишут этот блог. Бабушки подруги очень давно - больше чем 60 лет. Внук из Хелена (одна из бабушек) учил её как изпользовать компьютер и как заводить свой блог. В них самым недавним писание, они написали что республиканский кандидат на пост вице-президента США - Сара Пэйлин - сука.
Although the blog is in English, I want to share it with everyone. Two old ladies write it. The old ladies have been friends for a really long time - over 60 years. The grandson of Helen (one of the old ladies) taught her how to use a computer and set up her own blog. In their most recent post, they wrote that the Republican candidate for vice president (of the US), Sarah Palin, is a bitch.
Я не знаю, Вас интересуют или нет этот блог и американская политика, а я ещё смеюсь о том что они написали о Пэйлинa. Я с ним согласно - Сара Пеилин сука. Она точно как наш президент Буш, а в платем и губной помаде.
I don't know if you are interested in this blog and American politics or not, but I'm still laughing about what they wrote about Palin. I completely agree with them - Sarah Palin is a bitch. She's exactly like our President Bush, but in a dress and lipstick.

Something like that. All obvious words and definitions stripped out.

Especially when you're translating something and don't want it to sound like a translation.

Date: 2008-10-05 06:13 pm (UTC)About guys refusing to teach you swear words: it is still considered uncouth in Russian culture for men to swear in the presence of a woman, or for the woman to swear at all. That's an ideal, of course, and like everything else in our degenerate times, this custom is fading, but it is better preserved than what I observe in the US, for example.

Date: 2008-10-05 05:53 pm (UTC)about russian 'сука' and english 'bitch', it's very equal, because in russian we have much unpolite and even illegal: 'блять'. it's not even dictinary world. could be only in criminal or unprintable dictionary. but 'сука' is legal word.
ethymology of 'сука' and strict meaning is "she-dog".
