Let's play a game!
I will make a list of words, in English, that convey the idea of two-of-something, or the state of two-ness, if you will. I would like to see a similar list like this in Russian. To the maxim extent possible, place the Russian word alongside the English word that comes closest to the same meaning, provided such an equivalent exists.
two
twice
double
second
duo
dual
bi- (as in biannual, bicycle, bilingual, binoculars, etc...)
couple
pair
twin
tandem
I can do the first one!
two - два :)

Date: 2008-09-12 04:59 pm (UTC)He is mad.
He is angry.
He is pissed off.
He is furious.
He is outraged
In Russian, the only way I ever express this is by "Он сердит." Is that acceptable? Is there a colloquial version like our "pissed off"?

Он зол (angry)
Он в ярости/в бешенстве

Date: 2008-09-12 05:10 pm (UTC)There are also verbs- сердиться/рассердиться, разозлиться. They mean something more like to get angry, but people often use them to mean 'He was angry.'

Without modifier it's "разозлиться", "вспылить" etc. I can't think of any special colloquial expression.
Don't know what I said to piss him off - Не знаю, что я такого сказал, что он так разозлился.
He's mad/furious/outraged - Он в ярости (гневе, бешенстве), also Он взбешён, зол как чёрт.

BTW, in the case with 'близнецы' there may be more than two of them. Pretty much as with 'twins' I guess. However, I've never heard of anything like 'thrins' in English, while in Russian we have 'тройня' to designate three simultaneously born children (of the same mother).
