How to express in Russian

"That car is a heap of scrap"

It means the car is old, some things don't work, it's probably rusty, who would want it ?

Эта машина - груда металлолома or это не машина, а груда металлолома.

Old, rusty, barely moving car is "ведро с болтами" or "ведро с гайками" (literally "a bucket of bolts/nuts")

Why the hold off? I'd say that the car's a [state-of-the-art] "ведро с гвоздями" ("bucket of nails").

Well, there is such a thing as an ancient art, after all.

Literal translation is quite authentic: "эта машина - груда металлолома".

I'd say колымага. The word is funny and may be a bit out of date but means exactly what you need.

+1.
Колымага means precisely that.

Thanks) Do you also use this word :-) ?

Well, sometimes, when I see the above-mentioned car ;-)

Wiktionary (http://ru.wiktionary.org/wiki/колымага) also offers драндулет as a synonym. Such a wonderful word!

Yep! I've forgotten драндулет, but it's also a really cool word :-)

Old and rusty cars my friends calls either "помойка" (lit: scrap-heap, dump) or "ведро" (bucket), иногда "ржавое ведро" ("rusty bucket")

[Joke here! Don't treat this seriously!]
If you're going to sell that car on Russian market you should use phrase "Состояние: хорошее" (Condition: good), like here (http://cars.auto.ru/cars/used/sale/1762883_8944921.html) :-))))
