I was hanging with some Russians and a non-Russian and the non-Russian mentioned a Russian curse word he was taught by a friend (the only word he knows in russian haha). He said it was spelled upside down V, o and x. Which in Russian would be: лох. I'm pretty sure that's it at least. No one understood what he meant by the English letters, so I flipped them around to Russian to be that word and when I said it, the Russian boys said it meant something, like an idiot. What exactly does it mean?

1. It is naive, simple, trustful person.

2. 1 + not reach person, utilized by others clever individuals.

Meaning is negative enough like looser, etc.

It's, basically, just a loser, or, if you forgive me some Yiddish, shlimazl. ;) "Лох" is a guy who's not terribly bright, tend to lose in life, and to be exploited by others. The word itself comes from "феня" criminal argot, where it is basically interchangeable with "фраер".

"Redneck" in some cases.

Лох is a loser or gawk. It's a word from thieves' cant (originally, лох maybe derived from old dialectal word), but now it's commonly used (colloquial).

A homonym of this word may be translated as "oleaster", but I guess it's not related to the former meaning.

As person from the lower middle class? I think that лох is not correct here.

Лох is a potential victim of criminals.

Ah! As in оделась, как лохушка :-) You're right (although it's a rare usage).

It's not a curse word. It is slang, but not obscene.

I don't want to argue with a native speaker, but when it was written on a blackboard at school, all my students said "ooooooooh."

Are your students native Russian speakers? They might have had a thousand reasons to say "oooh", but лох is not a curse word.

That's "быдло", I'd rather say.
