 Hi Guys,

I was wondering if you could help me out.  i'm translating a text about a company called Volgotanker.  It refers to   В.П Иванов

is it possible that the initials stand for vice president or vice premier or anything?  I can't find anyone in connection with Volgotanker who has these initials, so i'm wondering if they are his title rather than his name.

Is this normal in Russian like V.P in English?

thanks in advance.

I believe it's our first vice-premier, Sergey Ivanov =) http://www.yandex.ru/yandsearch?text=%D0%B2%D0%BE%D0%BB%D0%B3%D0%BE%D1%82%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%BA%D0%B5%D1%80+%D1%81%D0%B5%D1%80%D0%B3%D0%B5%D0%B9+%D0%B8%D0%B2%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%BE%D0%B2+%D0%B2%D0%B8%D1%86%D0%B5-%D0%BF%D1%80%D0%B5%D0%BC%D1%8C%D0%B5%D1%80

In any case, if you're asking for a translation consultation, providing context is essential -- we cannot do anything but guess without seeing the original context.

V. P. Ivanov is the Deputy Head of President's Administration.

I think it's just initials of his name.

It would be nice to see the whole text for sure, though.

Nah, who needs the whole text? Just the context. Say, one sentence, two sentences.

Writing a title in caps before just a bare last name is not normal in Russian, especially when "вице-презиент" could not have been abbreviated into "в.п.". Unfortunately it's becoming a norm for PR people and even journalists to speak Russian as a second language.
