Hello again!

I'm looking for a way to say "hang out" in Russian. Like for example:

"I always hang out at my friend's place"

And does it matter if it's a physical place? For example, would you use the same expression to talk about hanging out at LiveJournal?

"I like to hang out at LiveJournal."

Example: «Я часто зависаю у своего друга».

You'll be surprized - "отвисать", which is nearly literal translation of "to hang out".

Тусова́ться (imperfective) - потусова́ться (perfective). Examples:

"Я постоя́нно тусу́юсь у своего́ дру́га" - "I always hang out at my friend's place."
"Я люблю́ тусовáться в ЖЖ" - "I like to hang out at LiveJournal."
"Мы потусовáлись немно́го у него́, а пото́м пошли́ в кино́" - "We hung out at his place a little and then went to the movies."

Отвисáть (imperfective). Same thing as "тусоваться" but slangier and thus less acceptable in general conversation. I сould use "тусоваться" when talking to my parents, but not "отвисать". I have only heard this used in the imperfective, but I'm sure you could form a perfective if you wanted to. Something like "Мы поотвисáли у него́ немно́го, а пото́м пошли́ в кино́".

"Зависать" is a stable form. "Отвисать" - I've never heard this )
I believe it is very recent word.

You can also use "ошиваться" (implies doing nothing useful):
- Я постоянно ошиваюсь у своего друга
- Я постоянно ошиваюсь в ЖЖ

but beware, "ошиваться" has negative connotation. You better use тусоваться или зависать. But all this is slang, it can be used only in informal conversation. I don't know if "hang out" is slang.

Simply put, if a person ошивается, he is loser, and if he туcуется, he is cool :)

from all the above mentoned forms I would use the following 2:
1. зависать/зависнуть (imperfective/perfective). they will fit both for places and for the Internet. E.g.: Вчера до двух часов ночи зависала в интернете. Аlthough for places i usually say
2. тусоваться. i use it most often in the imperfective form, since using it in any possible variant of a perfective form sounds unnatural to me. E.g.: В воскресенье пойдём тусоваться к Жене.
I would also say that the two verbs are slightly different in meaning. While зависать might mean hanging out for no obvious reason or doing nothing special or exciting (especially when about the Inernet). Tусоваться implies hanging out AND having fun.

As for the other above-mentioned variants, although there's no denying it that they do exist, they are less frequent. I've never heard anyone say отвисать, for that matter. To me it sounds low colloquial.
As for ошиваться, it has a negative connotation. When a person ошивается, (s)he is not welcome to a place.
Hope I've been of some help.

I think, "зависать" is more suitable in both situations.
"отвисать" and "тусоваться/тусить" is more likely to be used connected to night clubs or sth like that

You can also say Я постоянно сижу у своей подруги or Я постоянно сижу в интернете.

And don't forget about short form of тусоваться - тусить!
I.E.:
Потусим сегодня? (stress on У or И - matter of habit)
Я хочу тусить!
Мы вчера жестко потусили!
Петя тусил все лето.
etc.

Oh, and St. Petersburg citizens often say "Кутить"
Кутить and тусить are more like "party", but it can also be used as hanging out.
