Is it administration's position?

Well unless I've missed a big reform in a community I once founded, it's the position, as one of our ruder idioms puts it, of a certain stray body part from a mountain.

I'm frustrated a litle. Does it read 'found' or 'founded'? Different verbs, you know.

Then I'd like to hear official position JIC.

For my opinion, use/don't use question is not very important for not native speaker.

So, I reckon, to persuade Russian learners to use the 'Ё', you must prefer English languge in you comments.

Thanks.

Let me guess... you're misspelling "исчезает" as a form of protest?

ёjad :) We should also outlaw everyone who doesn't put the proper diacritics on the Latin letters and doesn't mind the punctuation, let alone orthography. We are talking about a billion of people or so. Sweet! :)
Seriously, though, correct spelling may indeed be helpful to those who don't know the language well yet. I'd agree with odin2000, but I think there're many more things than just ё to consider and ё isn't really such a big deal. These days we're so poorly educated that the number of mistakes is unbelievably big and at some point it may become easier to take the wrong spelling for the right due to the latter being in the minority.

The poorly educated ones are those who think ё is compulsory.

FFS, the reason I don't put the dots above every Ё is not that I'm lazy or can't spell, I don't because it's GOOD STYLE not to. At least it's been so before the invasion of the half-literate idiots.

This community has 3000 members. It has been around since 2000 and still has not died out, neither has it turned into a mindless chat. In my book, this means that the rules are working and the community is functional. I can also remind you of a Russian proverb: "В чужой монастырь со своим уставом не ходят."

to [livejournal.com profile] oryx_and_crake,

Yes, they're backdated. Look at the dates on comments there, and the numerical ID of the post. This (http://community.livejournal.com/learn_russian/287.html) is the actual first post.

I was about to apologise for my general jerkiness and thank you for your patience when I ran into you freezing a comment thread after asking a question. Which seems a rather erratic thing to do, and as an admin, erratic is the one, the supreme thing you don't want to be. Or seem, for that matter.

well in any case i'm thankful for people using ё because it's helpful when you still don't speak russian that well- does anyone have any examples of words that look like other words when ё is not used? or does this not exist?

Sure, there are lots.

E.g. осел (past from the verb осесть) - осёл (a donkey)
сел (past from the verb сесть) - сёл (genitive plural from село, a village)
