Hey I want to give my awesome russian teacher something nice for the march 8 day thing. I dont entirely know what the celebration is about other than its comparable to valentines day but for all women.
Can you give me something short and sweet to write on a card. Just very simple.
And okay I know there are a lot of superstitions... so if I got her flowers.... no yellow right? and not an even number?? Or should I just bring her a cupcake or something?

I think flowers is the best choice for March, 8. Odd number indeed, because even number of flowers is used for funeral. Not sure about a color choice. I didn't hear anything bad about yellow.

Well, some people think that yellow flowers are the symbol of parting. But some people just don't care, because yellow flowers are also beautiful :)

There are two opinions I've heard off... First - yellow is bad because it means parting, second - yellow is good because it means money (money=gold). So it's really a matter of what the person you give flowers to thinks about yellow flowers :). On the other hand for 8th of March the most traditional flowers are mimosas, which are yellow :)

Generally it is not comparable to valentine's. It's not day of your lovely person, it's the day of all women, so it's your mother, grandmother and sister's day as well as your girlfriend or wife.

Something short and sweet to write on card: "С 8 марта!" :-) (Bot really creative though)

Flowers, yes, no yellow, not an even number, you're right.

If a present then it should be a woman's gift (i.e. applicable for your sister as well, for example) and not really expensive, perfume maybe.

By some prejudice yellow is considered to be a color of jealous and antipathy in some way. Well, it's not that common like even flower number but...
Well, it's better not to give yellow flowers and girl doesn't have this prejudice than vice versa ;-)

Maybe a gift card to a nearest nice parfume or beauty store. Smells and cosmetics better be chosen by a woman herself.
