 In English we use the word "like" in various constructions, such as...

I feel like an idiot

It smells like something is rotting

You look like a basketball player

I know that in Russian you can use the phrase "выглядеть как..." (ты выглядешь как огурчек). What about feeling like something or smelling like something? Can you say "Я чувствую себя как..." "Я ошушаю себя как..." "Пахнет как..." Thanks for the help!

I'll just give you a quick translation:

Я чувствую себя, как идиот = Я чувствую себя идиотом
Пахнет, как будто что-то стухло/гниёт
Ты выглядишь, как баскетболист = Ты похож на баскетболиста

Instrumental case is the universal, although not always optimal, solution.

It is definitely more colloquial than the neutral "протухло", but it exists all right.
