Hi guys. Two quick things: is "много вопросов" the correct translation for "a lot of questions"? And would "Masha asked if she can come to our place" be translated as "Маша спросила ли пойти к нам"?

"Masha asked if she can come to our place" the translation is Маша спросила может ли она пойти к нам (или Маша спросила может ли она пойти в наше место)

Is the может in there necessary? Just wondering because we never learned that, just ли on its own.

Hi, my name is Alina, I am Russian and I teach Russian to the foreigners. All of us, teachers don't just follow books, we have plenty of our own material or ideas or small teaching tips that make classes more effective/interesting and so on. Some teaches don't like to share their ideas - others wouldn't mind or even want to exchange experiences. In my opinion such exchange could be great - because it is hard to be creative all the time on your own.
This community is really great and helpful (for teachers as well), I admire the maintainers of it, thank you!
I had an idea of making a similar community for instructors to share teaching methods or impressions. I didn't find anything of the kind in the Internet - maybe you know? I don't want to repeat the existing thing. If not - do you thing people will be interested in that?
Your opinion is important for me as I see a professional in your answers.

I would rather say just Маша хотела прийти к нам
The construction Маша спросила, можно ли ей прийти к нам is correct but seems to me too formal.

Well, can't you feel the difference between those two?
Маша хотела прийти к нам = she wanted to come regardless of our opinion on her coming.
Маша спросила, можно ли ей прийти к нам = she asks our permission to come.

It's definitely not an option to use "хотела" instead of "спросила, можно ли [ей]".

Surely I can. But the correct translation is not always literal translation.

It is more likely that russian-speaker would say that Masha wanted to come than that Masha asked if she permitted to come.

But of course, it is impossible to say which one is correct in this particular case without wide context.

смотря что имеется в виду. Мы говорим "наше место" если имеем в виду посещаемое нашими друзьями место. Например, место для шашлыков в лесу.

"Our place" in modern English means, first and foremost, the place where we live. Your interpretation is possible but very far-fetched, and needs an explanation of the context.

You forgot the comma: "Маша спросила, может ли она пойти к нам". Russian punctuation is a lot more generous than English one :)

The second variant (with "пойти в наше место") is complete rubbish.

1) Много вопросов is correct. But "Множество вопросов" is much better.
2) Маша спросила, _можно_ ли ей (придти) к нам

"множество вопросов" is stylistically marked while "много вопросов" is neutral.
since "a lot of questions" has no stylistic connotaion (not that it's mentioned) it should be translated as "много вопросов".
