[identity profile] mourrif.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] learn_russian
I just started to study Russian language. I stumble on two words that I can't translate.

1)угу
2)серчай
Somebody could help me?
Thanks in advance.

1) Something like "yeah".
2) Imperative form of "сердиться" which means "being angry". Often used in phrases like "не серчай" = "cool down". Archaic construction.

Putting it in a more linguistic vein, серчай is an imperative of the verb серчать, which in turn is an an archaic form of the verb сердиться (to be angry).

yep, also used with prefix о: осерчать: он осерчал = he got angry.

It's not "used with," it's, putting it back to linguistic veins according to oryx_and_crake's advice, perfective vs. imperfective aspect (осерчать is perfective, серчать is imperfective.)

What about that: "Серчай, не серчай - всё без толку."?

1) Aha (a little grumpily)
2) give me the context if you want the accurate answer, but it definitely is something to do with anger.

In very rare cases (when used by some internet-addicted people), "серчать" means "to search".
