how would one translate the phrase

this is from a song by Ruki Verkh, which is linked here

If i translate it literally, this fragment makes little sense to me.



NOTE: this is not a discussion whether the quality of these singers is good or bad.
I am not a native speaker of Russian, but I have quite a high level, and am currently teaching kids at the very beginning level. They adore this kind of music, and have sung Ruki Verkh before successfully. So as long as we're going to be singing it, it would be nice for me to give them an accurate translation so they at least know what they're saying. The particular idiom above was not known to me.

In this particular context it seems to mean she was messing with his head, rather than annoying him, which is how it would normally be translated.
The lyrics are quite stupid, so it was likely picked for the rhyme.

Listening to popmusic i a great way to learn russian, I agree with you! Wish you were my teacher! And Ruki Verkh ha such clear dictation! I learnt alot of words from them, from the album "Sdelaj pogromche".

Listening to popmusic is a wrong way to learn Russian. They rarely bother to write meaningful phrases. Usually it's stylistically and gramatically wrong. That's why it's a bad source of examples for the beginners. I had a friend (a musician) who wrote songs in English using the grammar of English punk music. He "learnt" his English from there and believe me his English was awful. Same thing with learning Russian from pop or modern rock music.

In my opinion, only the songs written before 1985 can be used as a source to learn Russian, for then there was censorship (not only political, but philological too) and after перестройка it was gone. Now everyone writes whatever he wants, just to match the metre and sometimes the rhyme.
