Dear Community,

Could you please explain the grammar logic for the solutions to the following?

1. Строительство корпуса университета, КОТОРЫЙ ПРОЕКТИРОВАЛ ЭТОТ АРХИТЕКТОР, велось более 20 лет.
A. спроектированное этим архитектором
B. проектируемое этим архитектором
C. проектировавшиеся этим архитектором
D. проектированное этим архитектором

The task is to replace the fragment in CAPITAL LETTERS with ONE of the SUGGESTED POSSIBLE solutions, A, B, C or D. Why is only C. correct? What makes all the others wrong?

2. Цена билетов в турбюро, КОТОРОЕ РАСПОЛАГАЕТСЯ В ЦЕНТРЕ ГОРОДА, чуть ниже.
A. расположенного в центре города
B. располагающегося в центре города
C. расположившегося в центре города

Task is same as 1. above. Why is only A. correct? Why are we using the GENITIVE (ого) here?

Actually, no one of the answers seem correct to me.

1. The construction of the university building, WHICH WAS DESIGNED BY THIS ARCHITECT, lasted over 20 years.

A. The "construction" can not be "designed". Wrong
B. See A, additionally, one gets present continious here: "construction" is "being designed. Wrong.
C. Here one gets no connection for the particip at all, since the latter is used in plural... Which multiple objects did the architect design? No answer. Wrong.
D. The word "проектированное" is actually irregular. And it concerns the process of construction, too. Wrong.

Correct is: "спроектированного этим архитектором"

In the second task, the casus is wrong. One has to use prepositional. "расположенном в центре города"

BTW, German is much more suitable for this explanation. Wenn Sie bei mir klopfen, kann ich die Beispiele weiter erläutern.

An architect could design both "корпус" or whole "университет", but not a "строительство". It seems, that author of this exercise doesn't realize that, because his solutions suggest, that the architect does design something in neuter gender. But expression "проектировать строительство" is absolutely wrong.

What is a reason for second wrong exercise, I can't even imagine.

Thank you for the explanation. If I interpret your statements correctly, you’re saying that there’s a mistake in the test?

So, the correct answers must be: "спроектированного этим архитектором" and "расположенном в центре города", respectively.

I *hate* when the teacher makes a mistake and you can’t get it right no matter what. But, at least you’ve helped me maintain my sanity :-)

Yes, there is a mistake in the test. I'm afraid, your teacher is not a native Russian speaker. Look the comments below, all of them are the same as mine.

As a variation - your teacher might be a native Russian speaker, but he or she has a very little idea of what an architect makes. This version explains only the mistake in the first test, though. That in the second test remains strange for a native speaker.

Where did you get those answers? None is correct, ESPECIALLY the options marked as "the only true answer." Again: ALL solutions represented here are wrong.

Got the test questions from this source: http://www.joensuu.fi/fld/russian/kirilka/testit/sertif2_3.htm

The questions under discussion are 14/32 and 15/32, respectively. There may be a few other outright errors and some questionable solutions. I guess this illustrates one of the weaknesses of the (automated) multiple choice system.

Well, since it's a Finnish Web resource (.fi stands for Finland,) I'd rather say that the person who compiled that test was not a native speaker of Russian.

I'm Russian, and I agree with colonelrabin & jakobz

1. The best variant is:
Строительство корпуса университета, спроектированноГО этим архитектором, велось более 20 лет.

becouse архитектор -> проектировал -> корпус
and not архитектор -> проектировал -> строительство

2. Цена билетов в турбюро, расположеннОМ в центре города, чуть ниже. - This is right

Usually people also say:
Цена билетов в турбюро, _находящемся_ в центре города, чуть ниже.

There is no correct answer among the options in both cases
it should be спроектированного and расположенном respectively
