Допушкинская русская поэзия
Jul. 6th, 2007 11:40 amDear Community,
Could you please help me translate the below Russian text into a coherent English sentence?
"В допушкинских поэтах есть все, что дает место в мировой литературе русским именам."
Here's my translation attempt:
Pre-Pushkin poets provide everything that gives room to Russian names in world literature.
Thank you for your kind input.

UPDATE: Thank you for your input. I've settled for the following version:
The works of pre-Pushkin poets already contain all the elements that later enable Russian names to gain reknown in world literature.

"There already is everything in [the works of] poets predating Pushkin that makes place for Russian names in the world literature."
Still looks awkward, I admit it.
What makes your translation look maybe a bit clumsy is the absence of articles and a "russian" feel to it.

And the word "provide" too. Not only because of russian but because of english too. It's much better to use "produce".
