Quick question regarding computer programmes. If in my exam I have to write a response to a job advertisement which specifically asks for experience with computers and to state which progammes I can use... how do I write the names of the standard Microsoft programmes in Russian? Would it be too simple to hope that Word translates as слово and so on.

Thanks in advance

You don't need to translate names of programs.

In my CV I write the names of programmes in English - Microsoft Word, Adobe Illustrator, etc. HRs understand this.

Nobody translates program names, as well as nobody translates brand names - you do not translate Microsoft as Мелко-Мягкий (though many do so just for fun,) you do not translate Adobe as Сырцовый Кирпич, and you do not translate Ford Motors as Двигатели Брода. You also do not translate names like MS Word etc. - just leave them as they are, in Latin letters.

Note that you also do not translate people's names - nobody expect you to write Лаванда Хорошая Погода instead of Lavender Merryweather - but you do transcribe people's names, though: it'll be something like Лавендер Мерриуэзер.

for example:

Имею навыки работы с Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Power Point, Word, Project) на уровне продвинутого пользователя, ARIS, BPWIN. Средствами автоматизации (Microsoft Axapta, Microsoft CRM, 1С: Предприятие). Практические знания по организации планирования и учета в торговле, в области взаимоотношений с клиентами.

It's worth noting that computer terms are translated (usually just cognates), such as веб-сайт, форум, etc., but brand names and application names are not. Are the names of programming languages written in English as well-- is it "Java" or "Джава"? I'm guessing "Java"...

I never saw in CV such words as "джава, сипипи, бейсик, сишарп". It's bad style.

You guess right of course though I have to note that you may met "джава", "микрософт" (or "майкрософт"), "виндовз" (windows) in some unofficial speech like forums or so. It is highly unofficial and is not welcome in official CV style.
