How would you say "A letter came yesterday"? I know how to say "I received a letter" (Я получил письмо) but it would be nice to be able mix up up the language to express this sentiment.

Вчера пришло письмо.
You'll need to say Письмо пришло вчера if the main idea is that of time, yesterday vs. today, for example.

Ok thanks. If you want to say where or from whom it came from, how do you say that?
Is this correct?
Вчера пришло письмо от друга
Вчера пришло письмо от института
Вчера пришло письмо из Ирландии

Yes, this is correct.
Actually I have my doubts about the second phrase although I'm a native... Ask other members of the community :-)
