Does anyone have a recommendation for an online Russian news site (in Russian) that has the simplest and clearest writing? I'm not looking for real in-depth analytical writing, but basic stories so I can keep up on Russian news and also improve my vocabulary without getting overwhelmed.

trust me, you don't wanna read Russian news, unless you wanna spoil your mood :) they are mostly about criminal events =(
anyway, try www.utro.ru - very simple, I think.

Try here. It presents current news, has bi-weekly updates, vocabulary exercises and an archive. In addition, the speed of delivery is reduced to allow learners to keep pace.

Don't trust 'em :-) At least don't take what they write at face value.
