Does anyone know where to find Russian magazines (particularly Cosmo) in the U.S.? I've looked online for subscriptions but can't find anywhere that does anything like that. I know Barnes and Noble brings in other English-speaking countries' magazines, but not Russian (or at least in my area.)

I'm a Russian major and, as my professor has pointed out, to be fluent in Russian you need some sort of knowledge of slang and less commonly book taught words (i.e. the typical "i saw, he drank, we will go to the park", etc.) And as such, i thought it might be fun to read a magazine that I enjoy, but work out my brain at the same time.

Thanks very much!

See if there are any Russian stores in your area - if you live near a big city, it would be likely that there could be a Russian deli, or other type of store, and they're likely to have Russian magazines as well.

Even if you don't find any stores that are specifically Russian, it would be worth checking out any places that bill themselves as "European delis" - they're often Central/Eastern European, so there may be a possibility that they are owned by Russians, and hence providing Russian goods.

I have seen Russian Glamour and Cosmo at Borders sometimes. I find they tend to have a better selection of foreign magazines than Barnes & Noble.
Also, if there is a Russian grocery store in your area, you might want to check there.

Hmm, I'm really spoiled here in LA since there's a large Russian population. Are there any stores which cater to Russians, groceries and stuff? They might have a rack of magazines there, or at least be able to tell you where to go :) I've never had luck with big chains. Good luck!

Ooh, jealous. French stuff is so hard to find here, it drives me crazy to have to pay to have books shipped from France :x

i suggest you ask the same question in [livejournal.com profile] rusam - the community of russians living in the US
dont' forget to mention in your post that you're looking for this in New Orleans, else they'll likely send you to the hundreds of russian stores in New York

Out of curiosity, I tried machine translation with Babelfish: My grandmother reads the magazine "Life". --> Моя бабушка читает кассету "Жизнь".
Shouldn't it be газету?

Anyway, to get back on topic... you can get FREE Russian language newsletters and such at most eastern European stores. Here in Houston, "Наш Техас" is all over the place.
