I have some questions that are probably more appropriate for the Russo-English friendship / cultural exchange communities. Where are they again?

EDIT:: oryx_and_crake said to just post my question here so here goes:

Narod.ru websites say they run on the server "ZX_Spectrum/1997 (Sinclair_BASIC)". Is this a joke?!

I am sure there were some - I even remember them being advertised here, but for the life of me cannot remember their names.
However, why don't you post here anyway. I don't think it will be wildly inappropriate. Put the entry under lj-cut and make a disclaimer outside saying that this is more cultural than language study related. I think this will be all right.

It's a joke.
This project (Narod.ru) belong to one creative person.

Isn't this obvious? Considering the sites' performance, I'd say that rather possible. ^_^

I got rid of my last Spectrum in about 94. And the latest ROM (with the Basic) in it was dated something like 90 or 91 (probably some custom hacks), whereas the original one was from something like 82 (newer versions for advanced hardware were from 87).
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zx_spectrum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zx_spectrum)
Actually, there were a number of good games made for it.

Of course that is a joke. Russia made great progress since Spectrum was popular here, and now we mostly use Amigas, especially in the enterprise hosting industry.

AFAIR some times ago Narod was served by VAXes, would be uncool to flock to something like freebsd :)
