Hello all. I'm having a little trouble with part of this text that I have to translate. The first part I think is awkward but I think the second part makes no sense at all. Can you help?
I think I might be way off.

Таню разбудил солнечный луч. Она открыла глаза и удивилась -- вместо привычных голубых гардин -- синее небо в небольшом окне, вместо белого потолка -- высокий купол.

So far I have "Tanya woke up due to a beam of sunlight. She opened her eyes and was surprised."

Then I haven't quite translated the second part. I understand it to mean that she confused the familiar light blue curtain with the sky? Please help!

She did not confuse anything - she was surprised (удивилась) when she saw blue sky in a small window instead of the blue curtains she used to see, and a high vault instead of familiar white ceiling.

Vault or a cupola? Did she wake up in a church or what?

Tanya was awoken by a beam of sunlight. She opened her eyes and - instead of familiar blue curtains - she was surprised to see blue sky in a small window. Instead of white ceiling - a high dome.
