learn_russianI have an analysis to do on slang for my linguistics class. In short, I want the focus of my project to be Russian slang terms for money. I already know of баксы and бабки, but I need more. What are some slang terms you know of? Slang phrases are also welcome. If you could reply with a few terms and short descriptions of what they mean and when they would be used, that would be great.
Also, when the words штука and лимон are used to signify amounts ("one thousand" and "one million", respectively), does it only apply to money? Or could one use them to speak of an amount of other objects (e.g. "Я прочитал штуку страниц", "В этом городе живет лимон человек")?

Also there are some special words for coins which are not used today because of inflation.
5 копеек - пятак, 3 копейки - алтын, 10 копеек - гривенник, 20 копеек - двугривенный, 50 копеек - полтинник.

лавэ -- cash (mostly in criminal slang)
косая -- 100 rbls
катя = пятихатка -- 500 rbls
штука -- 1000 rbls

also:
бабосы, КЦ (каце) - money
зелень - dollars
у.е. - could be used for dollars or euros
деревянные - rubles. can be used as answer when asking to specify currency

Date: 2007-02-19 10:10 am (UTC)these frases - both - sound very strange. Sure we can understand them but i would never say so... Mostly we use them only speaking about money - две штуки рублей (2 000 rubles), три лимона баксов (3 000 000 USD) :-)
