I apologize for such a request, but could anybody suggest a FREE (online or downloadable) English-Russian text translator? (not a dictionary)

It's needed for a gentlemen who lives in US and is too old to learn English, but not too old to use PC and Internet. :)

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I am very sorry to disappoint you, but you will not get any better with any other automatic translator either, no matter what some people tell you.

I really liked how it does translation. Not perfect, but...
It's even caught some mistakes in my post, I used "for gentlemen" instead pf "for gentleman" and that was translated as "для господ" instead of "для господина".

I tried to translate my original post and got this:

(без словаря) Это для джентльмена, который живет в США и слишком стар, чтобы учить английский язык, но не слишком стар, чтобы использовать компьютер и Интернет. :) Любые предложения будут только приветствоваться."

Not without bugs, though.
I tried some articles from CNN, about Super Bowl. It's a disaster! :)

First of all it translated "soggy field" as "Россию области"... There was not a word about Russia in CNN report. I'm puzzled!

"And there they stood in the rain, the winning Super Bowl coach and the MVP, finally savoring a moment that was a long time coming."
was translated as:
"И они стояли в дождь, чаша победы супер тренер и MVP, раснется наконец момент, который пока не поступает."
Word "раснется" does not exist in Russian, as far as I know.

Bottom-line: it does pretty well when text is written by a Russian guy (me), but you should watch out when it does original American or British English.
