I want just tell you how I'm glad to meet all of you who study Russian.
I'm learning Englsih and American and hope study abroad some day (I'm not student already, so I don't have any chance for free exchange programm... but we'll see :).
So I know how many people dream about USA of England. But it was very strange and exciting to me to discover that somewhere else there is someone who likes Russia and learns Russian! :-)
At this momemt I'm doing Russian As Foreign Language Teachers course, so I'll try help you with any questions.
And sorry for my Englsih - my skills isn't good yet :-)

By the way, I live in Moscow so if you need a native speaker for speaking sonversation here - you are welcome. Absolutely free of charge - I need a practice as a teacher :-)

I'm curious -- at what point does it matter whether you're studying British English, or American? The accents are different, but I would imagine that beginning and even intermediate students wouldn't be able to differentiate between them very easily. I'm American, and other Americans sometimes ask me if I'm British, for example.

The slang is different, the idiom is different, words still in use in Britian are obsolete in America, etc.

Where did you study?

I'm living in Moscow, studying Russian. I returned after having had a 3 month study-abroad here two years ago. So often when Russians find out that I am studying the language, they are surprised -- and that surprises me!

It's a wonderful language. Kudos to you for learning to teach it.
